Raskulls was developed by Halfbrick Studios, published by Microsoft Studios and released on Xbox Live Arcade in 2010. Aaron Green was brought in as a producer for a small team midway through production, using daily scrum and Agile management. Raskulls shared a lot of gameplay similarties to the platforming themes of Super Mario Bros and the block-digging challenges of Mr. Driller, but included a complete and unique story that mixed a wild bunch of iconic characters and personalities. Aaron also contributed as a digital artist, a story writer, and largely as a level designer, workshopping dozens of key levels and challenges, core to the Raskulls gameplay.
The characters of Raskulls were very unique and personal to gamers, unlocking extra characters in the gameplay and through DLC purchases. They were also highly marketable at the time and fit into the NFT space of the day, being offered then as iPhone wallpapers for fans of the game. Aaron designed these wallpapers so players could feature their favorite characters.
These are level skin concepts, exploring the immersive possibilities as players go deeper into the game. While Aaron was primarily a producer for the development team, he is firstly an experienced digital artist, and worked with the lead designers to try out ideas that would also tether to story avenues and character variation.
