The combination of mechanical knowledge and vehicular design brought Aaron's digital illustration into a junction that came roaring to life with custom motorcycle commissions. Motovate was pitched to builders and customers as a previsualization of the dream ride. It combined new ideas, favored features and always a sense of adventure into complete concepts, ready for craftsman to expand upon. Builders included Smoked Motorcycles Australia, also built in Bali, the Kustom Kommune from Melbourne, and independent clients.
Smoked Motorcycles began as an import of custom designed motorcycles that were built with an incredibly talented Balinese team of craftsmen. It soon expanded its headquarters in Brisbane, Australia and began customising and building locally as well. Smoked has some of the most adventurous and exciting designs seen around the world and consistently delivers phenomenal builds for riders and collectors. Aaron designed motorcycles to expand on their existing catalogue, with the Lotus concept replica, and customer specified designs for various motor and chassis bases.
The Kustom Kommune is Australia's first community funded custom motorcycle workshop, hosting a fully-decorated workshop, training and mechanical tutorials, bar and eatery, and community ride schedule. As part of their proactive foundation for custom motorcycles, Aaron designed several builds for the organisation itself and their members.
The Raider was an inhouse design for Aaron and one of the first illustrations for Motovate. The profile perspective gives a clean view of the motorcycle's features, allowing adjustments to be made with consideration for the flow and feel of the design. The design workflow produces each part in vector and on its own layer, allowing the entire design to be manipulated and recolored on the fly. The illustrative process is a lot more dynamic than 'photo-bashing' and lends itself artistry and craftsmanship in place of arbitrary execution.
Harley-Davidson was in the crosshairs for VW Kombi builder, Simon Orton of Performax, who requested concepts for a hot show vehicle built on his repertoire of flatbed models. Aaron brought in some classic rockabilly tones mixed with modern highlights, synonymous with the hybrid styling of Harley-Davidson.
